I wish I had photos of Thanksgivings spent with the Stewart side but I sure don’t. My memories of Thanksgiving, and Christmas, too, that I do have are filled with Uncle Robert’s handmade croissants/butterhorns , Aunt Lori’s fancy pies, and Grandma Clara Lou would break out the first small batch of Buckeyes which was my personal favorite thing to see on the table. It was also one of the times we got to sit together around Grandma Clara Lou’s big table in the dining room where her organ was. Eating there always made me wish she’d break out her collection of pretty Desert Rose dinnerware! (Which I now have a healthy start of my own collection!)
Much like Grandma Rose in 1977, this week is about prep work for Thanksgiving and we’re still reeling from the effects of RSV here at our house so we’re very winded and need breaks often. It’s slow going but we’re getting there. Hope you have a good one – sounds like Grandma Rose sure did!
NOTE: As always, I left her spelling, capitalization, and punctuation as much as possible.
November 19, 1977 – Got up 8:35 After feeding cat and having breakfast – mopped kitchen while Len dressed and made the bed. I made ½ dozen strawberry shortcake biscuits. Lisa and Lori and Jill brought chicken and potato salad. I already had potato soup made, so we had that too and st.berry shortcake. Lisa took me to Jones’ after lunch. Took a tour then of the greenhouse, looked at pictures and Lisa cut my hair after I’d mollified it up yesterday. Gave Lisa big jar of potato soup to take home. They left a box of potato salad.
I went to see Ken about the dog digging in the yard so he says he will tie him up.
November 20, 1977 – Got up 9:00 After breakfast, made double batch of pie crust. Made 3 pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. Made 1 meatloaf baked and froze – Took nap in afternoon. Loafed around during the afternoon. Read a few papers. Wrote 9 page letter to Effie – went to see Ken about the big dog “Junky”. He’s been digging up the yard and trying to dig under the greenhouse. Ken says he will die him up. I’ve heard that before.

Arch called about 5:15. Said he was bringing down ham and cheese for sandwiches and he’d eat with us. Enjoyed having him here for an hour or more. He brought us a ham 9.99 – oranges grapefruit cranberry sauce and yams for Thanksgiving – head of lettuce. He left the have and cheese that was left over.
Kernels still feel sore this evening when I swallow.
