I was so curious if this week would take Grandma and Leonard to the Pumpkin Show but alas, no.  However she mentions a new restaurant I’d not heard of, Tatman’s in Laurelville; in my search to find out more about them, I found them listed as a sponsor of the schedule page for the Pumpkin Show in the Circleville Herald with some old familiars like Andy’s Market, The Citizen’s Bank, and The Ashville Coffee Shop.

I have to laugh at her making beef tongue this week as I very vividly remember being repulsed at her making it one time when I was there after Leonard had passed and she lived in Ashville near the pool. Ick! I shudder at the memory.

NOTE:  As always, I left her spelling, capitalization, and punctuation as much as possible.

October 22, 1977 – Got up 9:00  Painted porch again after breakfast – also front of trailer where Len put up boards to keep out the cold – and cats!

Len ran the sweeper in the afternoon – I put away the sheets and towels & wash cloths we washed. Took an hour nap in afternoon. Len did the supper dishes while I read the evening paper. He’s a good guy.

October 23, 1977 – Got up at 9:00 AM Ralph & Effie picked us up at 12:30 – Had lunch at Tatman’s Restaurant in Laurelville at 1:15 – Roast beef, mashed potatoes & gravy with dressing, tossed salad and coffee. Took the lovely ride out North Ridge Road – all the way to Lake Logan. Stopped at Violas Waggener where we got grass (plume) and sumac on our trip in 73. Came on back by Henry’s. Trees were simply gorgeous. Ef & Ralph brought me a big box of pears from Dorothy’s. Ethel brought us a big beef tongue Dorothy gave her.

October 24, 1977 – Appt. Dr. Lut 3:30 P.M. Office canceled Appt. until Nov. 28 – 1:45 so Len and I fixed seams on green house and I touched them up with paint and painted half of east side of green house. Put weather stripping on front door. Took 1st white fence away from evergreen and took to back shed. Trees have grown. Don’t need fences now.

October 26, 1977 – Got up 9:00 AM. Opened garage and green house and fed cat. Raked leaves from under back maple tree, tho’ some keep falling. Cut down corn stalks & piled them up. Spaded behind where fences were.

Missie took me to Tarlton for groceries. Also got two bags potting soil 2 – 25 lb. $2.19 ea

Really enjoyed the beef tongue for supper tonight.

October 27, 1977 – Got up 9:00  Painted West side of green house and south side to where I can now reach it from the ground. Carried the two 25 lb. bags top soil to green house. Raked leaves from Road in front – pile to side of garage. Filled another bag fro Effie and put some in front flower beds.

Len fixed felt around door of greenhouse and worked in garage while I visited with The Hanes – Took Naomi some mums and plume grass. Len put “pull” on the bottom of green house door, so it will fit snug.

October 28, 1977 – Got up 9:00 Fed “cat” and opened up green house to get leaf rake. After breakfast, I raked up more leaves and filled up another sack for Effie.

Watered a few flowers in the greenhouse and swept up mess Len made fixing the pull on the screen door. Transplanted two or three Joseph’s Coat starts after the “soaps.” I spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen. Prepared tuna-macaroni and cheese casserole, so I could get supper easily. Put some zucchini in for good taste. Ground zucchini and froze 2 cups full for bread later on when I get Rosie’s recipe.
