Leonard and Jill in the garage circa 1977.

I’m not sure if this was taken on August 7, 1977, but isn’t it odd that I have a bouquet and she mentions giving me one and taking pictures too? I do remember being in her flowers with her and “helping” as a child – I’m having trouble finding this original to see the date on it but it might be this particular visit. Notice one of the screens behind Leonard that he’s always fiddling with and the chair they had brought out into the garage?  I think this might be a picture from that day.  Cute, if so and I have the matching entry for it!

NOTE:  As always, I left her spelling, capitalization, and punctuation as much as possible.

August 6, 1977 –  Got up 8:00  Cleaned out grass and weeds from around “Red Hot” paper plants by last peony push on bank flower bed. Cleaned up red blooming sedum.

After lunch Len worked more on mower and I iron for 1 1/2 hours.

Stormed this afternoon – After storm, I carried more boxed of material to the garage. Some day, I’ll really get the closet read out; so I can really clean them.

Transplanted couple of Franks hedges to breezeway flower bed.

August 7, 1977 –  Got the pumpkin blossoms.  Got up 8:00  Messed around outside for an hour or so – after breakfast went to Johnson and picked up apples for Rosie. Got wagon full & red bucket full.

Did Lens foot. After Lunch, Rosie and Jill got here about 1:30.  After visiting awhile we went to Johnson and got two more water buckets of apples. Jill had fun.  Rosie took the yellow wagon full & two buckets of apples. Rosie brought swiss cheese and corned beef & pumpkin pie. I made potato salad. That was our supper.  They left about 5:00 P.M.

Took a few picture of Jill in the flowers. Gave her a bouquet of flower to take to “mommy.”

August 8, 1977 – Got up 8:30. Worked around the tomatoes a little more. Got more pumpkin blossoms – After had breakfast, cleaned half the flower bed in front of the trailer & cut all dead stalks off the bleeding heart. Stirred the compost pile.

Rain, & lighting drove me in about 11:30 Darnit! I was all set to work outside even if the grass was awful wet.

August 9, 1977 – Got up 8:00  Finished most of the front trailer flower bed. Cleaned up Ollies hardy sweet peas – They’re blooming pretty good this year. Very pretty – lavender color.

Len peeled apples to freeze for pies (3 whip cream containers) and two pints of stewed apples. Cooked down some apples for butter in small hot pot – Delicious.

Grass was wet until nearly noon, but I got out anyway.

August 10, 1977 – Got up 8:00 Cut off squash and pumpkin runners that were coming out into the grass. Hoed outside of pop corn, loosed soil so I could pull the weeds.

After breakfast Len worked on grass around asparagus bed while I worked on the corn weeds. Picked beans from garden and Len broken them while I watched my “soaps”.

Yard getting bad – needs to be mowed.

August 11, 1977 – Got up 8:00 Put on water for coffee – Dressed and hoed up patch for beets – again – Planted one row beets and replanted beans that didn’t come up. – again-

Watched soaps – then took a nap for an hour.

Canned two pints apple butter had in ice box.

Went out after supper and raked up grass & debri from flowers, asparagus and corn that Len and I pulled out yesterday. Storm came up and had to shut up and hurry in. Raining so hard the plastic squares are covered by the green house.

Got letter from Lil Owens about Pearl Armstrong. Shed had a heart attack 2 weeks ago. In Mt Carmel Hospital.

August 12, 1977 – Got up 8:00 A.M.  Messed around outside for a while in the breezeway.

Got letter from Ethel today – I called her in P.M. to tell her about Johnsons sale. Said they might bring the fam down Sat evening.
